HOW LONELY A STAR
To reach beyond the hearts of men
Is but to hunger yet again,

For, once, I reached a bit too far;
My God! how lonely is a star!

STUDENT OF LIFE
He was so spent in dreaming ways of living
And studying the best that life could give,

That, in the toilsome art of theorizing,
He quite forgot to live.

THE INTELLECTUAL
Sometimes he strolls a bit too far
Out where common credence ends.

And he has gained a frosty star
And lost the glowing hearth of friends.
