My Days Were Comforted

By - VA Martinsburg, West Virginia

Thus it was contrived by mind,
That youthful dreams would become sedate
Then warring contradictions grew
To the harsh time I knew as hate.
Sadness too, with dreams undefined.

I searched among old sunken wrecks,
Sensing where my lost dreams had gone.
And saw brave men, supine and felled;
Treasures galore and wasted brown.
There my sweet dreams were safely held.

All that I saw, appeared serene;
I knew my dreams had never died.
Each one was there in solemn peace,
To bless me for the ways I tried.
My days, that were forlorn and lean,
Were comforted by all I’d seen.
