Hard Lines

By - VA Dayton, Ohio

Veteran Joe took good care of his small business and family but found occasional relaxation in a few drinks. Then his town went dry and soaring liquor prices made these sessions scarce.

One evening Joe called on a friend for a business-social get-together. He was extra happy to see his host bring out a humidor of good cigars and two empty whiskey glasses. Joe looked forward to an enjoyable evening.

They talked and smoked for several minutes, then Joe’s host indicated the empty glasses, saying: “Put your cigar ashes in there.”
