Dreaming

By - VA Waco, Texas

Have you ever stood at the edge of the sea,
Where endless water goes flowing by,
And thrilled at the sight of a gull on flight,
Or an outbound ship, ‘neath a windswept sky?

Have your thoughts ever followed the wake of that ship,
On its voyage to some distant land;
With cargo to trade, and no one afraid,
For the ocean is home to a sea-farrin’ man?

Have you ever dreamed of a sailor’s life,
And longed to be part of a crew
That laughs in the face of a howling gale,
And sings when the heavens are blue?

Now, if you’ve sailed, but only in dreams,
And dropped anchor in strange ports of call,
Much happier you’ve been, than thousands of men,
Who have never dreamed at all.
