Curating Resources to Help Veterans

In addition to publishing the best veteran-created prose, poetry and art three times a year, Veterans' Voices magazine has curated the best "tools" and practices from veteran psychiatrists, psychologists and others that veterans can use to build better lives. Veterans Voices Writing Project also offers important veteran speakers sharing their experiences and successes addressing challenges. At the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, I developed and led a transitional learning center, the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center (PRRC). Its goal was to help veterans with serious mental illness to reintegrate into their communities by focusing on the biological, psychological, social and spiritual dimensions in their lives. The veterans called it the School for Better Living and were partners in its development. Each veteran developed a recovery plan and worked toward personal community integration goals.  Many remarkable recoveries occurred as veterans worked on what gave their lives purpose and meaning.
