Anything Is Possible
By John F. McGrew - VA Long Beach, California
How many times have you seen the expression?
“The difficult we do immediately,
The impossible may take us a little longer,” or words to this effect?
I always thought this pleasant bit of imaginative optimism most refreshing, but somewhat impractical. That is, I thought so until I met a fellow whose basic attitude toward life was founded on such a plan. Everything in our service outfit that seemed impossible to accomplish was relegated to this chap with amazing results. He started magazines, dance bands, fantastic promotion schemes and sport programs. Most important of all, his spirit was infectious.
He fell mortally wounded on Korea’s Bunker Hill, but even his death inspired his Marine buddies on to victory. Further, he has achieved something in the immortal as inspiration for many of us to “carry on” against almost impossible odds.
Perhaps the keystone of his success was “friendship”, for his sphere of acquaintances seemingly had no bounds. Anything hard to obtain could be had merely by calling “Joe” or another of his friends. It’s a fact of human nature that doing things for someone draws you closer to them and his reciprocal program for helping out others was returned many times.
Such things as “getting well” when the chips are down are made easier with the firm knowledge that success WILL come. Friendships along the way guarantee and speed the victory.
Yes, it took an amazing friend to pave the way, but I have discovered that anything worth accomplishing can be done. Have you made the same discovery?
