Now What? By Rich Wangard It seems my fellow vets that my writing has become more and more political as of late. It is not my intention! I wish to offend nobody especially you as all of you are my brothers and sisters! I cana not help but wonder what happens to our fellow active-duty service members as Novem er approaches. A 78-year-old and a 82 year old with no military experience. What does my 18-year-old grandson face as he gets his first stripe Feb 1? I don’t know! I read about the deplorable living conditions in the military. We all know the pay is not great. They all sacrifice so that they can get some education and grow. The cost as we all know can be steep! So who do you vote for? That is strictly up to you! You earned the right to choose whoever you think best! But my fellow vets, please VOTE! It will decide our future. One in which we can all speak Russian or one in which we choose to follow democracy and support a nation who is bleeding just like we all did! A nation I am so proud of because all my ancestors came from that nation—Ukraine! Brave men and women who lay it all on the line just like w did! Yes, it was 55 years ago, but tell me what changes about war except the weapons that can kill better and better! They fight all alone not depending on anything but support for the ability to defend themselves and keep their own land. Remember Stalin in WWII? It is why my wife’s mother got to Canada way back then. They were lucky to get ---my wife’s grandparents! NOW WHAT? Your vote decides which way we go! I for one find it an insult as to the death of over 58,000 of my bothers who many had NO CHOICE but to fight and sit here and watch the death of so many as they try to keep the torch of liberty lit! we as the ‘greatest’ nation on earth won ‘t even give them the tools they need to protect themselves against an endless onslaught! So, vote but before you do remember your service and who supported you when you were on active duty! What did it feel like? Where were you? What rank? But most of all, why did you serve? Could it have possibly have been that you loved your country? What do you think the Ukrainians think?
