Utilizing coping skills with a plan of action on an every day basis has always helped to function. Functioning to keep the nightmares and emotional memories at bay has always been the primary objective. Bur, lately thoughts of the initial oath of enlistment helped me to realize that as warriors we had a special comradery fighting side by side and not necessarily limited to fighting in a war. The fact that we all shared one common drive to serve our country, defend and preserve the American way of life, the constitution, and freedom instilled a drive and determination in each of us to protect and preserve every American that with most of us included putting our life on the line. Of equal note, most veterans took that oath as a permanent lifelong vow whether serving in a war or not, or assignments during their term of enlistment. The bond between all of our brothers and sisters veterans became ironclad. We came to realize that we also served for every Americans right to live and believe in the manner they chose, and the right to pursue happiness, freedom, and way of life according to their definition. Maybe I'm out on a limb here so I will only speak for myself but it just becomes apparent to me that the nightmares we endure, tears shed, loss of sleep, and so forth, though attached to our inner beings for life we approach and deal with as a head on fight. Suffice it to say: Warriors we were. Warriors we remain fighting the fight to survive our maladies. Supporting one another and when needed no hesitation to call the Veterans Suicide Hotline at 988 then press 1. A special salute to each one of you. Best Wishes!!!
