Courage

By Jason Bartley, National Guard

Writing Type: Poem

By Jason Kirk Bartley

VA Medical Center--Chillicothe, OH

"Courage

is not the absence of fear,"

but rather bringing your fear into submission,

taming the lion within

while you pursue an ambition,

or complete a task.

It does not mean that one will

not go through some pain.

It does not mean one will

not go through some period of sorrow.

It does not mean one will

not find a thousand excuses

why he should "give in."

It just means he clings to the one excuse

and holds it close to his heart

of why he shouldn't.

Courage.
